DERGAON, July 17 - Sensation has been prevailing among the teachers community here as the Headmaster of Swaguri Mising ME School in Golaghat district was interrogated by Dergaon Police following the filing of an FIR against him.

According to police, an FIR was lodged on Sunday by as many as 90 persons of the village alleging that Headmaster Sobilal Pegu sold about 20 quintals of rice supplied to the school under the mid-day meal scheme. However, the Headmaster denied the allegation against him.

Now, after receiving the rice, he had returned the same to the shopkeeper, Pegu claimed. The police also interrogated the president of the school managing committee.

On the other hand, a section of villagers opined that the Headmaster was innocent and the matter was nothing but a political conspiracy. On being contacted, the OC of Dergaon Police Station Robin Kalita said that investigation was going on and the mater will be settled after proper verification of the documents of the cooperative shop as well as Education Department authority.

Since it is a civil case and two parties have different versions, so no arrest can be made without proper verification, the OC added. In this regard allegation was leveled against several headmasters in the district who show inflated student enrolment so as to receive mid-day meal commodities in surplus and later sell the items in the market to augment their income.
