School chess tourney begins

GUWAHATI, Feb 11 � The 5th All Assam School Chess, organized by Guwahati Chess Academy in collaboration with Guwahati Chess Association and Lions Club of Guwahati, Kamrupa started today at Shilpgram, Paniabah. The tournament is being held in three different groups: Queen, Knight and Pawn. Altogether 82 players including 14 FIDE rated players from different school of Assam are vying for the top prizes in the tournament.

In Pawn Group top seed Prasurjya Das of Army Public School Narengi, second Seed Bidisha Sarma of Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Rajgarh, Kunal Kalita of Don Bosco, Guwahati, Kushanabh Baruch of Army Public School, Abhilekh Mahanta of Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Dhanjit Deka of Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Barsajai, Dhritiman Bez of Assam Jatlya Bidyalay, Harsh Sarma of Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Silpukhuri won their games today.

In knight group top seed and FIDE rated player Dipu Pradhan of St Peter�s School, Nazira is held to draw by Lakshaydeep Malakar of KV Khanapara. But second seed Amlan Mahanta and third seed Simran Ahmed won their game comfortably. Amian beat Mohsin Ahmed with black pieces while Simran Ahmed beat Prachurjya Gayan with white pieces. In this group Amlan, Simran along with Mohit Jain Sarala Birla Gyanjyoti, Salim Raja of Victoria EM School, Nitish Das of Faculty High School, Rishi Deuri of Don Bosco are leading with I point.
