MORIGAON, April 2 - A scam in distribution of scholarship to students of minority communities has been reported in Morigaon district, police said today.

Police said that a man named Muzamil Hoque, an inhabitant of Bhuragaon Bazar, allegedly misappropriated Rs 28 lakh from the Pre-Matric Minority Scholarship Fund by opening 250 fake accounts in various nationalised banks in Morigaon district.

The scholarship money was meant for poor high school students belonging to minority communities in Bhuragaon revenue circle in the district.

Police said Muzamil runs a customer service point of a nationalised bank.
