Scheme to boost sericulture in State

GUWAHATI, Nov 12 - The State Government will adopt a new scheme for the development of eri and muga industry so that it can usher in a revolution in the sericulture sector by boosting production and introducing new designs and technology, said Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi here today.

The State Government will work in a mission mode for development of the sericulture sector, he asserted, said an official press release.

The Chief Minister was speaking at a function organised by the Sericulture Directorate at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra here on the occasion of Muga Day.

Referring to the emphasis laid on development of the muga industry by rulers like Kumar Bhaskar Varma and the Ahom Swargadeos, the Chief Minister said that the people of the State are proud of the muga farmers and artisans. The State should move towards attaining the goal of expanding the scope of this industry, boosting its production, improving its quality, introducing attractive designs and modern technology so that it can help economic development of the State, he said.
