Scheme for meritorious students fails in Baksa

BARAMA, July 28 � At a time when the State Government has introduced different schemes for the welfare of people, one such scheme, namely Medha Jalpani scheme, meant for the students, has dismally failed in Baksa following which a number of selected meritorious students could not avail their scholarships, a report available here said.

According to the report, the State Government announced a scholarship under �Medha Jalpani Achani� for meritorious students reading in high school and higher secondary school who obtained 50 marks or more than 50 mark in different annual examinations.

The chairman of Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) has sent a message to the Inspector of Schools, Baksa asking him for necessary documents photos etc filling up form from meritorious students following the guideline of �Medha Jalpani Scheme�. According to the report a sub-committee with Deputy Commissioner as chairman and Inspector of Schools, Baksa as secretary along with other six members was constituted to serve the purpose. Accordingly the norms of the �Medha Jalpani Scheme�, the sub committee headed by DC, Baksa has prepared a list of meritorious students � 1059 (general), 373 (SC), 3439 (ST), 1452 (OBC) and 40 (Tea-tribe) reading under HSLC level while 51 (general), 16 (SC), 65 (ST) and 51 (OBC) students reading at Higher Secondary level were prepared for this scheme as final selection. The names of final selection list of the meritorious students was sent to the office of SEBA.

But surprisingly, the said list was sent back to the office of Inspector of Schools Baska because of nonavailability of fund to implement the scheme.

The district committee of Baksa Zila High School Teacher�s Association and Baksa Zila Siksha Santha and Karmachary have expressed serious concern over the negligence of implementing the scheme� meant for meritorious students.
