GUWAHATI, July 4 -Taking the Vaishnavite traditions of the State to greater heights, a team of Sattriya artistes under the leadership of Dr Bhabananda Borbayan will leave for the UK tomorrow to perform at the British Museum and other festivals there.

The 11-member team will perform an over one-hour long dance based on the Brindavani Vastra, inculcating forms such as Mati Akhara, Gayan Bayan, Bhortal, etc.

According to Dr Borbayan, the dance has been inspired by the motifs of the Brindavani Vastra, a historic textile piece woven under the guidance of the Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Sankardeva. The team will also take part in a number of festivals, including the Utopia Festival, Riverside Ragas Festival and Newcastle Festival.
