Satra Mahasabha condemns scribe�s remark on Majuli

JORHAT, June 6 � Majuli district unit of the Asam Satra Mahasabha, Jorhat condemned the remark by Nishiraj A Baruah, travel editor of Mail Today published in its issue on May 20, 2010 at a meeting held at Majuli Milan Sangha this afternoon.

The meeting chaired by Duttadeva Goswami, president, Majuli district unit of the Asam Satra Mahasabha resolved to send a clarification to the chief editor of the Mail Today against the unilateral and blasphemous opinion of Nishiraj A Baruah in his article on Majuli.

�The story about the child abuse and homosexuality conceived by the travel editor of Mail Today is definitely a severe blow upon the age old reputation of the abode of the Vaishnavite culture, Majuli as well as the people of Assam�, said Duttadeva Goswami at the meeting. �Every Assamese should protest against the indignation inflicted on the Satras by the irresponsible writer,� he added.

�Instead of protesting in the personal level, Satra Mahasabha today formally and collectively protested and condemned the opinion of Nishiraj A Baruah�, said Putul Mahanta, secretary, Majuli district unit of the Asam Satra Mahasabha.

Harideva Goswami, Satradhikar, Garmurh Satra, Janardan Deva Goswami, Satradhikar, North Kamalabari Satra, Narayan Chandra Deva Goswami, Natun Kamalabari Satra and many other dignitaries were present at the meeting.

The meeting resolved to wait and observe the reaction of the Chief Editor of the Mail Today in this context and to undertake necessary action thereafter.
