GUWAHATI, Jan 31 Star performer Sarupam Purkayastha today became the second highest wicket-taker in this seasons Ranji Trophy with 35 victims. Rajasthans medium pacer Pankaj Singh at the top of the list with 36 wickets.

Offie Sarupam took 35 wickets from five matches while Pankaj played all the seven matches in Group B. Sarupam will get atleast two more matches in this season as Assam is certain to enter the quarterfinal stage. It is a landmark show for a Assam bowler, particularly for a son of the soil. With this superb show, the stocky short built bowler can stack a claim in any of the national squad. The BCCI senior selectors must consider Sarupams name in any of the national squad considering his performance this season. But the bowler feels he has to do lot more to find a place in the national squad.

He, however, feels that this kind of performance will definitely enhance his confidence and he is encouraged to do more for the State Ranji team. He said, finally hard work paid dividend as in the pre and during season he worked hard in finding the perfect line and length along with turning the ball.
