GUWAHATI, Sept 23 - The 567th birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardeva was observed across the State in a befitting manner today.
The occasion was marked by elaborate programmes, including naam-prasangas, in the naamghars.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, while paying homage to the 15th Century saint-reformer, said Sankardevas ideals has a lot of relevance today, especially in the context of growing divisive forces in the society.
Some political parties and organisations are trying to create a communal divide in our society. It should be the bounden duty of all of us to resist such divisive forces by following the ideals preached by Sankardeva, the Chief Minister said in a statement.
The Chief Minister added that Sankardeva strove to build a composite Assamese society by taking everybody into confidence and uniting the masses through his liberal philosophy, and that it should be the bounden duty of all to carry forward the saints legacy.
