BARPETA, Sept 19 - The 570th birth anniversary of Assamese saint and social reformer Srimanta Sankaradeva was celebrated in all corners of Barpeta district. The Barpeta Sattra witnessed huge congregations of devotees who came to offer prayers on the occasion since early morning.
Naam prasanga was organised along with the recitation of the Bhagawat all day long. The morning prayers at the Barpeta Sattra were attended by a large number of people. Burha Sattriya Basishtha Dev Sarma and Deka Sattriya Nabajit Das were also present during the session.
The saint�s birth anniversary was also observed by the Barbazar Juvak Sangha, which took out a procession with the Bhagawat in the town. The Sangha also held a religious symposium.
At the Barpeta Road Sakha Sattra, Sarbhog and Belbari, the birth anniversary is being observed with a three-day schedule with a number of programmes.
The birth anniversary of the Mahapurush was also celebrated with religious fervour at Sarthebari, Gomura, Gajia, Amrikhowa and Chenga Sankaradeva Bharidhowa Ghat.
