Sanjeeb Bordoloi becomes USO president

DIBRUGARH, March 2 � Former principal of city�s Bagmibor Nilomoni Phukan Higher Secondary School, Sanjeeb Bordoloi, has been elevated to the post of president of United School Organisations (USO) of India. Bordoloi assumed the office after the recent death of Ram Niwas Mirdha, ex union minister. Mirdha, also an ex chairman of Sangeet Natak Academy was associated with USO since 1960 as its president.

USO is a voluntary educational centre of United Nations (UN), which promotes teaching about UN and spreads the message of peace at the grass root level in the schools. USO conducts various educational programmes, such as general knowledge test, UN Information test, UNESCO test and publishes number of books for the tests. It also publishes a monthly magazine �World Informo� and UN Chronicles on behalf of UN.

Sanjeeb Bordoloi is the first teacher from Assam and Northeast India to hold the post of president of USO. He was associated with USO activities since 1959. He was then a student of 9th standard of Bagmibor Nilomoni Phukan Higher Secondary School, the erstwhile George Institution. Bordoloi joined as an assistant teacher of the school on February 1, 1965. Under his leadership, the students of the school took active part in all the USO activities since November, 2007.

Bordoloi is also the founder of �Mauchak�, which he visualised to encourage and extend financial help to the poor but talented students of his school and to attend USO�s general conference and All India School festival in different parts of India. Through Mauchak, he organized cultural programmes and helped the students of his school. The teachers and students of Assam who participated in the All India programmes of USO elected Bordoloi to the executive council of USO as its member. Fifteen executive members of USO who were elected from different parts of India supported Bordoloi as one of the two vice presidents of USO for the last 30 years. He was therefore promoted and rose to occupy the present post.
