Salbagan fc lift Upen Brahma gold cup

UDALGURI, Sept 23 - Salbagan Football Club of Gosaingaon emerged champions in the Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Gold Cup.

In the final of the championship at the Udalguri Stadium here today, the Gossaingaon boys trounced Nongrim Hills Sports Club of Shillong 5-2.

Salbagan striker November Basumatary opened the account in the 8th minute with a firm drive from top of the box. Mithinga Narzary doubled the margin in the 20th minute. Lwthw Basumatary was the star striker of the team today scoring two goals in the 48th and 59th minutes respectively.

Shillong outfit reduced the margin through Dennis Mawphinaw in the 58 minute. But it was Nigerian striker Joseph who made it 5-1 in the 86th minute. Finally Jeffrey Surong managed to narrow the gap just before the final hooter.

Minister Rihon Daimari gave away the Champions� trophy to the Salbagan FC team while Mazbat MLA Charan Boro handed over the runners-up trophy to the Nongrim Hills SC team. Lwthw Basumatary of Salbaan FC was adjudged the best player of the tournament.
