Salary hike to 8,800 govt teachers

GUWAHATI, July 27 - State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the State government will have to bear an additional liability of around Rs 600 crore annually following its decision to revise the salary of 8,800 faculty members of colleges, universities, medical colleges and technical institutes as per the UGC pay-scale.

Referring to the decision taken in the recent Cabinet meeting, the Minister said that the State exchequer will have to bear an additional annual burden of Rs 166 to pay the faculty members of the government degree colleges, universities, provincialised colleges and librarians as per the UGC pay-scale with effect from April 1, 2016.

The State government will also have to bear the arrear liability of Rs 476 crore for the same.

Further, in extension to the Cabinet�s decision to pay the faculty members of engineering colleges, polytechnics and institutions under the Director of Medical Education (DME) as per the UGC scale, the State government will have to bear arrears amounting to Rs 137 crore. The composite annual liability (including technical institutes and institutions under the DME) would be Rs 97 crore.
