SAKP stages 3-hour sit-in

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 21 - Members of Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) today staged a three-hour sit-in demonstration at Dispur Lastgate here from 11 am in protest against the alleged failure of the State government to honour the decisions of the bilateral meeting held between the State government and the SAKP on July 21 on the issues concerning State government employees.

The agitating SAKP members later alleged that the police misbehaved with them, including their president, and detained them for about one hour.

The July 21, 2015 meeting had decided to prepare an outline of a free health service scheme for the benefit of working and former State Government employees by August 15, 2015. It also decided to raise the wages of the States muster roll employees on a par with Grade IV employees. The meeting also decided to examine the issue of arrears due from 27 months to the employees following the revision in their pay scales.

But the SAKP alleged that none of the above decisions was implemented. The SAKP steering committee on November 4 set the State government the deadline till November 17 to settle the above issues, or else it decided to go for a series of agitation programmes beginning from today.

The SAKP steering committee today condemned the police action on its agitating members and decided to stage two-hour dharna programmes at the districts and subdivisions from 11 am on December 1.

Meanwhile, City Police Commissioner Mukesh Agarwala told this newspaper this evening that the SAKP did not take any permission to hold their sit-in demonstration at Dispur Lastgate.
