Sahitya Sabha urges Centre to respect mass sentiment

GUWAHATI, Dec 10 - The Asam Sahitya Sabha today urged the BJP-led Central government to understand the language of the mass protests in Assam over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

The Sabha made the statement after the 12-hour Assam bandh called by the North East Students� Organisation received large-scale support across the State today.

In a statement issued by its general secretary Padum Rajkhowa, the Sabha slammed the Union government for passing the controversial Bill in Lok Sabha even after the grave resentment expressed continuously by different organisations and parties of the region. Appealing to all the members of the Upper House to oppose the Bill, the Sabha general secretary informed that the literary body will start a legal battle against the Bill in the coming days.

The Sabha, meanwhile alleged that a section of people have been trying to disrupt the unity among different orgnaisations of the State on the issue.
