Sahitya Sabha annual session in city

GUWAHATI, Jan 30 � The eighth special annual session of Asam Sahitya Sabha will get under way at �Lakshminath Bezbaroa Khetra� at the Assam Veterinary College playground, Khanapara, tomorrow.

The four-day session will conclude on February 3.

The proceedings on February 1 will begin with the flag hoisting by Sabha president Imran Shah at 9 am. The next day, inauguration of the Asam Sahitya Utsav will be done by Assam Assembly Speaker Pranab Gogoi. Justice Mukundakam Sarma, retired Judge of Supreme Court will inaugurate the event titled Kuhi, while the youth festival, Ramdhenu, will be inaugurated by Desmond Kharmawphlang of Meghalaya.

Noted Oriya litterateur Paramita Satpathy will also be among the distinguished guests and she will inaugurate the programme Akash. Another highlight of the session is the Mamoni Raisam Goswami memorial book festival to be organized with support of National Book Trust, and the Singhapurush Radha Govinda Baruah memorial exhibition.

The delegates meeting scheduled for February 1 will be inaugurated by Guwahati Mayor Abir Patra.

On February 3, a seminar on the �Contributions of ethnic communities in building Assamese nationalism: the current crisis and the way out� will be held at 9-30 am. This will be followed by the open session at 1-30 pm, which will be presided over by Sabha president Imran Shah and inaugurated by author Temsula Ao of Nagaland. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Union DoNER Minister Paban Singh Ghatowar will be among the dignitaries to be present on the occasion.

A host of litterateurs writing in different regional languages including Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay and Surjit Paatar will also attend the function.

The venue of the Sabha session is wearing a festive look with workers busy giving final touches to the welcomes arches and pandals.
