Sahitya Akademi literary fest

GUWAHATI, April 19 - Sahitya Akademi is organizing a three-day North Eastern Literary Festival under the banner of �Purvottari: Festival of Letters� at the NEDFi Convention Centre from April 21 to 23, a press release stated.

The festival being organized in association with the Asam Sahitya Sabha and the North East Foundation, Guwahati will be inaugurated by eminent playwright and theatre director, Dr Ratan Thiyam at 3.30 pm on April 21 while Dr Dhruba Jyoti Borah, eminent Assamese writer will deliver the keynote address. Dr Bhalchandra Nemade, eminent Marathi writer, Dr Karabi Deka Hazarika, convener, Assamese Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi along with the president, Sahitya Akademi will also be there in the inaugural session.

More than 60 litterateurs representing 24 Indian languages, recognised by the Akademi and from all over the country are participating in this festival, the release added. Many distinguished litterateurs from North East such as, Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi, Nagen Saikia, Pradip Acharya, Budhichandra Singh, Shanti Basumatary and Sameer Tanti are also participating in the festival.

Distinguished writers and scholars from other parts of the country participating in the festival include HS Shivaprakash (Kannada), P Sivakami (Tamil), Shafi Shauq (Kashmiri), Malchand Tiwari (Rajasthani), Subodh Sarkar (Bengali), Arun Kamal (Hindi), Esther David and Vikram Sampath (English), Chhaya Mahajan (Marathi) among others.

Other programmes to be held at the festival include lectures and discussions by the eminent writers and scholars on variety of subjects, poetry recitations by the leading poets of India and also short story readings apart from a cultural performance � �Tridhara: Choreographic work in Sattriya, Kathak and Odissi Dance Styles�, mass music by Bibhu Ranjan Chaudhury, flute recital by Pandit Chetan Joshi on the evening of April 22, the release further added.
