By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI/DHUBRI, Nov 19 Sahanur Alam, one of the main accused in the Burdwan blast case, gave police the slip in Dhubri district in the early hours today when an operation was launched to nab him, reports PTI.

Two of his accomplices, who were also his relatives, have been arrested, Dhubri Superintendent of Police MN Sarma said. Sahanur fled around 2.30 am, Sarma said.

The operation to catch Sahanur had been launched about three days ago following a tip-off that he was hiding in the remote riverine area.

The area from where he fled shares borders with Meghalaya and Bangladesh and a search has been launched to trace him.

The BSF has been alerted about the possibility of Sahanur Alam alias Doctor escaping to Bangladesh, Sarma said.

His accomplices have been identified as Abdul Nur and Sahanur Ali, the police officer said, adding the accused had taken shelter in their house.

The NIA, which is probing the blast, has announced Rs 5 lakh reward to anyone providing information leading to Sahanur Alams arrest.

The NIA has so far searched his house in Barpeta district three times and seized some documents, coins of Arabic countries and bank passbooks. His wife Sujina was arrested from ISBT here on November 6.

So far nine persons, including Sujina and Sahanurs brother Jakaria, have been arrested in Assam in connection with the October 2 blast at Burdwan in West Bengal.

Six persons were arrested on October 10 from Barpeta district based on investigations that they are a part of a module operating under the Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh.
