Sabha unit to have youth, women�s cells

GUWAHATI, May, 12 � The Kamrup Mahanagar Zila Sahitya Sabha, in its representative meeting held at Pandu, decided to enlist the active participation of the youth and students and women by organising separate cells for these two important groups, stated a press release.

The Zila Sahitya Sabha, in its meeting held recently under the presidentship of senior journalist DN Chakravarty, also decided to set up Sakha Sahitya Sabha in all the degree colleges of the city.

The Zila Sahitya Sabha will organise a commemorative biennial lecture on Srimanta Sankardev by a Nobel laureate in literature or peace. These other lectures will also be organised in the memories of Sri Sri Madhabdev, Sri Sri Damodardev and Saint Azan Pir.

The Zila Sabha has appealed to the Sakha Sahitya Sabhas to hold literary discussions every month and to observe commemorate function to pay homage to writers of undivided Kamrup district. The Sakha Sabha will by rotation organise these commemorative functions.

The meeting was preceded by unfurling of Sahitya Sabha flag by DN Chakravarty, while Hemen Talukdar, vice-president of the Mahanagar Zila Sahitya Sabha, lit the lamp at sahid stambh. The secretary of the Zila Sahitya Sabha, Dimbesswar Pathak, in his report, explained the various programmes of the Sabha.

The general secretary of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, Dr Paramanda Rajbanshi, while inaugurating the meeting, dwelt at length on the developmental programmes already launched by the Sahitya Sabha. Dr Upen Rabha Hakasam, the chief guest, elaborated the confusion arising out of local variations in the use of several words of Assamese language.

Prof Dharanidhar Dhar Goswami, Tabiul Hussain, Aboni Kumar Sarma, Pabitra Kalita, Karuna Barman, Dasu Kalita, Uttam Barua, Kapurchand Jain, Rabi Charia, Jagadish Sarma, Bishnu Deka and Bipin Bhattacharyya took part in the discussion.
