By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Aug 21 - Reviewing the progress of rural development schemes in the State, Minister for Panchayat and Rural Development Naba Kumar Doley today said negligence in delivering service to the rural poor will not be tolerated.

Doley said the present government has laid stress on development of rural Assam, and hence, the employees of the department, especially the field officials, need to be more proactive and show responsibly towards the rural poor.

The three-day review meeting was attended by CEOs, PDs and BDOs, besides Principal Secretary Dr JB Ekka, Commissioner Dr P Ashok Babu, Secretary Nazrul Islam and other senior officials of the P&RD Department.

Progress of the schemes in each district was reviewed separately and implementation of every programme was looked into minutely and loopholes were brought to notice.

The minister directed P&RD personnel to complete registration of beneficiaries under the National Social Assistance Programme, whose names were not registered in the Plan Scheme Monitoring System (PFMS) after introduction of the Direct Benefit Transfer system, within seven days in every district, so that pension may be transferred smoothly to beneficiaries. On the other hand, Doley also directed the officials to complete the selection process of beneficiaries for the Universal Old Age Pension, which is to be launched on October 2 this year.

Similarly, various measures to complete the houses under PMAY-G within a short period of time were also suggested to the P&RD personnel of every district.
