GUWAHATI, April 7 � Police today arrested Jacky Zakir, the estranged husband of Congress MLA Rumi Nath from Karimganj, based on the revelations of notorious car lifter Anil Chauhan who was arrested recently by City Police.
The police also picked up a personal security officer (PSO) of controversial Borkhola MLA Debabrata Barpatra Gohain from the Special Branch headquarters.
During questioning, the police were said to have found links of dealings between Jacky Zakir and Anil Chauhan, who is the kingpin of an all-India auto theft racket.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police (Guwahati) J Chakravarty today confirmed the arrest and said that a team of Guwahati Police has left for Karimganj to secure custody of Jacky Zakir.
Zakir was arrested by Karimganj police this morning and will be brought to Guwahati tomorrow.
During the investigation, it was also found that Anil Chauhan, who is wanted in a number of cases in Delhi and Mumbai besides a number of other states, was also issued Assembly car passes on the Congress MLA�s recommendation.
MLA Nath has also been asked to explain why she recommended issuance of car passes to the notorious car lifter by the Assembly Secretariat.
It may be mentioned that Anil Chauhan�s alleged links with Rumi Nath have kicked off a political storm in the State.
Pressure has been mounted on the Congress to take action on the controversial legislator for her alleged links with the notorious car theft kingpin.
