Rubber growers urged to also take up pisciculture

GUWAHATI, May 17 - The Guwahati regional centre of Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI) in collaboration with Rubber Board recently organised a training-cum-awareness programme on �Use of aqua feed for enhancing fish production� at Darranggiri of Goalpara district under its tribal sub-plan programme.

�The main objective of the programme was to create awareness among rubber growers who are having small ponds that can be utilised for additional income generation through scientific fish rearing which was inaugurated by S Selvaraj, Additional Rubber Production Commissioner, Rubber Board, Zonal Office, Guwahati,� a statement said.

In his speech, Selvaraj urged the participants to take utmost benefit in terms of technical knowledge from fishery scientists of CIFRI.

Dr Sona Yengkokpam, Senior Scientist of CIFRI in the programme explained various integrated farming systems that can be practised by farmers including pisciculture for additional income generation.

Dr Dipesh Debnath, Senior Scientist of CIFRI in his speech discussed about pond preparation, stocking of fish seed, feeding and health management tips with the farmers and urged them to take fish culture seriously so as to take benefits from the system.

As part of the programme CIFRI distributed nutritionally balanced floating fish feeds to the participants for creating awareness about feeding fish for maximising profit from the system.
