RSS out to demean Congress image: Rahul

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 29 - Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today exhorted party members and sympathizers to remain united and engage themselves in the service of the nation by strengthening the Congress, which led the struggle to free the country from the yoke of British colonialism.

Stating that there was a conspiracy hatched by the RSS and BJP to demean the Congress image in the eyes of the people, he expressed the hope that the Congress would ultimately be able to frustrate all such designs, said State Congress spokesman Apurba Bhattacharjee.

Gandhi, who was speaking at an interactive session at the APCC headquarters at Rajiv Bhawan here this afternoon, said negative thinking like wishing plague in its rival camps has no place in Congress ideology. Congress men should always uphold positive thinking, sticking to the ideology of Satyagraha as propounded by Mahatma Gandhi. They should engage themselves in the struggle to get rid of poverty, illiteracy and unemployment and also to solve problems faced by the farmers, Gandhi said.

The party should also take into consideration the views of the young generation, women and other sections of the people, he said.

The Congress vice president thanked all Congress men who accompanied him from Borjhar Airport to Rajiv Bhawan. In this connection, he specially mentioned former Chief Minister Tarun Gogois enthusiasm, saying that without caring for the constraints he is facing due to his age, Gogoi took all the pains to accompany him from the Borjhar Airport to the Rajiv Bhawan.

Gandhi arrived in the city today to appear in court in connection with a defamation case.

The Congress vice president also praised APCC president Ripun Boras initiatives to rejuvenate the party in the State.
