RSS infiltrated religious places in State: CM

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 13 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today alleged that the RSS has infiltrated religious places in the State and said the Sangh workers were yesterday planning to create a situation of confrontation if Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi had visited the Barpeta Satra before the start of his padyatra.

He also said that no Satra land is under encroachment of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.

Speaking to reporters here today, the Chief Minister said some people within the Satra governing body were opposed to Gandhis plan to pay obeisance there.

We got reports about that and I asked the deputy commissioner to verify the facts and it was found to be true. I myself spoke with the Satradhikar and he also confirmed that there was some opposition among some members. Later, yesterday morning we learnt that they have gathered some women at the Satras steps to prevent our entry. We wanted to avoid unnecessary confrontation and so, Gandhi did not visit the place then, Gogoi said.

He, however, added that the Congress vice president paid obeisance at the Satra after completion of his padyatra and blamed sections of the local media for spreading

disinformation. He said Gandhi was aware about the entire episode.

Gogoi said an inquiry will be ordered under the Barpeta DC to find out lapses regarding the incident and to find out the people who may be behind the episode.

The Opposition is playing politics even in the satras. There is massive RSS infiltration and influence. The RSS made women sit on the steps of the Satra. RSS wants to create a conflict in the society, said the Chief Minister.

He added, Are Congressmen not allowed to enter satras? Are only Ram Madhav and Mahendra Singh allowed to visit satras? The Congress wants to unite all sections of the society. Why the BJP wants to create conflict for the sake of gaining votes?

Asked about allegations made by some BJP leaders about encroachment of the Satra land by suspected Bangladeshis, he said, Where are the Bangladeshis? Show me one Bangladeshi and I will resign... No Satra has submitted any memorandum to me in this regard. This is all a false propaganda by the BJP.

Gogoi, however, admitted that some Satra land is under encroachment by Indian citizens and the government is determined to take action against them as per the law.

We gave Rs 22 crore for development of Satras. What has the NDA regime done for Satras?, he said.

He also accused the BJP of inciting militant groups in the State and said that the State Government has got reports about the partys contacts with a Tiwa militant group and he has ordered an inquiry into the matter.

Gogoi also raised the old issue of BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarmas involvement with a militant outfit during earlier times and about allegations of Union Sport Minister Sarbananda Sonowal being involved in a murder case.

But they (BJP leaders) are instead now talking about National Herald case, Gogoi said.
