Rs 5 lakh snatched in broad daylight at Nagaon

NAGAON, May 17 - A gang of motorcycle-borne miscreants today again snatched away a bag containing Rs 5 lakh from one Laruram Sarma of Morikolong area when he was about to get into his car near the Eco Gas Agency in the heart of the town after withdrawing the money from UCO Bank, Nagaon. The miscreants were so harsh that when they snatched the bag from him, they also dragged him a few metres along with the bag on the road due to which the victim sustained severe injuries on his face as well as on his back.

Unabated incidents of snatching of bags containing money by unidentified motorcycle-borne miscreants in broad daylight in Nagaon town, have increased so much that it has dented the confidence of the public in the police machinery.

It may be mentioned that a gang of motorcycle-borne miscreants have within the last three days, snatched bags containing cash totalling Rs 6.70 lakh from three persons in three separate incidents. In one such incident, one person was also injured severely when the victim was dragged along when the miscreants dragged him along with his bag.

Similarly on Wednesday too, a gang of miscreants had looted around Rs 1.20 lakh from one Rajkamal Mazumdar of Nagaon Borkula village at the same venue after pouring some itching chemical into his helmet. The victim in an interaction with this correspondent here said that on last Wednesday noon, he withdrew the money from the SBI, Nagaon branch and went to the HDFC bank situated near the Eco Gas Agency to deposit an instalment. When he returned back to his motorcycle and put on his helmet, he had severe itching on his face. Meanwhile, two-three youths immediately rushed to him with an intention to comfort him and coolly just snatched away his bag where he had kept the money and melted into the crowd.

On Thursday last too, two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched a bag containing around Rs 50,000 from an employee of the Health department, Biren Saikia of Pathori Gayangaon village at Civil Gate Chariali in Nagaon when Saikia was on the way to his home after he withdrew his salary from SBI, Nagaon branch.
