Rs 47 cr NABARD loan for cold storages, godowns

GUWAHATI, April 4 - The State Cabinet today decided to set up cold storages and godowns in different parts of Assam. The Rs 47 crore project will be funded by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

Official sources said the State Cabinet, in its meeting chaired by the Chief Minister this evening, decided that the cold storages and godowns would be constructed under the Cooperation Department.

The Cabinet also approved recruitment of 5,600 police constables. The meeting also approved reservation for sports persons, VDP and youths of the militancy-affected area in police recruitment.

The Cabinet decided to extend benefits to one lakh youths under the Swami Vivekananda Assam Youth Empowerment Yojana. Under the scheme, unemployed youths would be given Rs 1 lakh as assistance for starting their own business, of which 20 per cent would be subsidy, to be provided by the government. Those who are doing some business would get Rs 2 lakh each under the scheme.

The Cabinet, in another major decision, allowed the Bureau of Investigation of Economic Offences to carry out raids under the provisions of the Goods and Services Tax.
