Rs 33,097.02 cr earmarked for NE in 2016-17

NEW DELHI, Nov 17 - At least 56 ministries have earmarked Rs 33,097.02 crore for the North Eastern States in 2016-17, Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr Jitendra Singh told the Lok Sabha today.

In a Lok Sabha reply, the Minister claimed that the Northeast is now better connected with broad-gauging of the major rail networks in the region. The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) are fully functional in all eight States and are now fast-tracking road building activity in the entire Northeast.

The NHIDCL has also undertaken upgrade of neglected but critical inter-state roads, a new scheme launched by the Ministry of DoNER.
