Rs 27.23 cr spent on govt ads in print, e-media this fiscal

GUWAHATI, March 26 - The State government has incurred expenses worth Rs 27.23 crore on government advertisements in print and electronic media in the past 11 months of the current fiscal.

Of this, a sum of 16.79 crore has been released, while a sum of Rs 10.44 crore is yet to be released against the government ads in different media houses.

State Irrigation Minister Ranjit Dutta, in a written reply on behalf of the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, informed the State Legislative Assembly that out of the total Rs 27,22,79,761 spent on advertisements from April 2017 to February 2018, advertisements worth Rs 21,14,99,495 have been given to 37 local daily newspapers and advertisements worth Rs 57.10 lakh have been given in 54 weekly and bi-weekly newspapers. It may be noted that Sonowal also holds the Information and Public Relations portfolio.

Responding to a question by AGP MLA Pabindra Deka, Dutta also said that the 15 electronic media houses of the State, including news channels, entertainment channels and radio, were given government advertisements worth Rs 95.90 lakh.

�A proposal of a ceiling of Rs 1.91 crore has been sent to the Finance department for hoarding, etc., in public places,� the minister stated.

On the other hand, the State government has incurred expenses worth Rs 4.55 crore for government advertisements in 14 national newspapers during the current fiscal.
