Rs 212 crore for cultural affairs dept

GUWAHATI, Feb 6 - An amount of Rs 212 crore has been earmarked for the Cultural Affairs department in the 2019-20 State budget for taking up various initiatives.

Among the major initiatives proposed for 2019-20 are establishment of a Cultural Research Centre in Barak Valley in the name of Swami Vivekananda, Ajan Peer Kshetra at Sivasagar, exhibition of Vrindabani Vastra in Guwahati, establishment of a State School of Drama on the lines of the National School of Drama and Sangeet Natak Akademi, establishment of a cultural auditorium at Matmora, Dhakuakhana, installation of statues of Raghab Moran, Bircha Munda, Ratan Lahkar, Achyut Lahkar and Parvati Prasad Barua, preservation of the erstwhile property of the late Dr Bhupen Hazarika in Kolkata, preservation and development of Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa�s residence in Sambalpur, Odisha, establishment of a Bhasha Swahid Memorial in Barak Valley, construction of Abotani Dirbi Lotta at Paramananda Atoi Niketan at Gogamukh, Dhemaji, completion of an auditorium at par with Rabindra Bhawan at Goalpara, establishment of Chilarai Kala Kendra at Golakganj, Dhubri, setting up of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika Samannay Kshetra and Ekta Bhawan near Dhola Sadiya, Tinsukia and establishment of Bihpuria Auditorium at Lakhimpur and Nalbari Auditorium at Nalbari.

The budget also proposed completion of the District Museum, Jorhat, at an amount of Rs 30 lakh and construction of new district museums at Lakhimpur and Mangaldai at the cost of Rs 50 lakh and Rs 22 lakh respectively.

Under the Directorate of Library Services, Assam, multiple initiatives have been conceptualised, which includes upgradation of libraries in various districts. Madhupur Satra, the place where Mahapurush Srimanta Sankaradeva and Mahapurush Madhavdev breathed their last � will get Rs 10 lakh for regular maintenance and upgradation.
