IMPHAL, April 6 - Manipur Government has announced cash award of Rs 15 lakh each for two Manipuri �Ningols� (meaning daughters) Saikhom Mirabai and Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu for winning gold medals in the ongoing 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2018 in Gold Coast, Australia.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh made the announcement while addressing the 38th foundation day celebration of BJP at its State unit office here on Friday.
In a twitter message, Biren wrote, �Wow! We have done it again! Congratulations Mirabai Chanu and Sanjita Chanu. (We�re) proud of you for making Manipur proud and India proud! Both of you really are great Manipuri Meitei Ningols. Rs 15 lakh will be rewarded to both of you by the State Government.�
Lok Sabha MP Dr Th Meinya has also lauded both weightlifters for winning gold medals for the country. Works Minister Thongam Biswajit and Sports Minister Letpao Haokip have also congratulated Sanjita on her winning the country�s second gold medal in the CWG.
Celebrations have erupted in Mirabai�s Nongpok Kakching village in Imphal East district and Sanjita�s village Thongju under Imphal West district.
