Rs 12.96 cr for Manipur education sector projects

IMPHAL, June 23 � The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has approved projects worth Rs12.96 crore for the education sector of Manipur. The cost of the projects would be met from the Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) fund administered by the Ministry, Manipur Information Centre, Delhi said in a release here.

In the 96th meeting of the NLCPR Committee held in New Delhi recently, Rs 12.96 crores was recommended for sanction for construction of 30 Model Primary School buildings for the six Autonomous District Councils of Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Sadar Hills, Tamenglong, Senapati and Chandel.

Sources said that this was a part of the Phase I of the construction of 300 Modern Primary Schools under the Autonomous District Councils of Manipur to be undertaken by Ministry of DoNER in the light of the directions of Supreme Court. The components for construction of infrastructure in each school would include buildings, rain water harvesting and fencing.

The matter had also come up for discussion during the meeting chaired by the Prime Minister in New Delhi on June 4 with the Chief Minister of Manipur and other senior Union Ministers.

Earlier this month in the 94th meeting of the NLCPR committee, Rs 9.72 crore was recommended for sanction of the infrastructure development of nine government colleges in the valley and hills in Manipur and Rs12.3 crores for construction of seven tribal markets in the state.
