Dr Sarma handed over the cheque to Dr R Ravi Kannan, director of the cancer hospital.

The fund is given from the State government and hospital shall use this money to buy machines and we believe that patients can get better treatment henceforth. We are also in constant touch with the Central government to pump in more financial support to the hospital as well, Dr Sarma maintained.

Meanwhile, Dr Ravi Kannan informed that the money will be used to buy Linear Accelerator radiation machine. In his words, treatment using this machine reduces side effects for the patients and ensures a completion of the course of treatment with better results. Patients do not get scope to complete their treatment because of the side effects on most cases. But once the new machine arrives, this difficulty is likely to be mitigated, Dr Kannan said.

Moreover, Dr Kannan informed that the hospital is likely to get an additional fund of Rs 2 crore as promised by the MLAs of Barak Valley which will help to complete the new building necessary for housing the radiation machine.
