RPF constable goes missing

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Dec 16 - Prasenjit Rai, a constable of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) posted at the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) headquarters here, remains mysteriously untraced since yesterday evening.

NFR Public Relations Officer (PRO) Nripen Bhattacharya informed that the 32-year-old person went missing around 6 pm on Tuesday evening.

We came to know that four persons came in a four-wheeler and picked him in front of the NFR headquarters. Some time later he informed his family about the incident through a text message and from then on his mobile has remained switched off, Bhattacharya said.

The RPF constables family has lodged an FIR at the Jalukbari Police Station. The RPF too has initiated an investigation to trace his whereabouts.

Officer-in-charge of Jalukbari PS Upen Kalita said that the case is quite mysterious and except the text message there is no other evidence available to ascertain whether it is a kidnapping case or the person is hiding willingly.

Although his family has filed a kidnapping case, till now we have not found any evidence of it in the footage of CCTV cameras available in and around the NFR headquarters. There was no eye witness either. On the other hand, we also came to know that the person had borrowed huge sums of money from different persons. So we are examining every possible angle, Kalita said.

Constable Rai is a resident of Gotanagar area of the city and hails from West Bengal. He is married and has children.
