Roy inaugurates water supply schemes

TINSUKIA, Jan 14 - Gautom Roy, Minister of Public Health Engineering, inaugurated two water supply schemes under the Tinsukia division of the Public Health Engineering today. The minister inaugurated the Dhelakhat Water Supply Scheme of the Gotong Gaon Panchayat under the Guijan Development Block which will cover a population of nearly 1000 in an area by pipelines measuring 5.5 km with a reservoir of 80,000 litres. The scheme worth Rs 46.5 lakh was completed on December 31 last year.

Roy also inaugurated the Lohari Kachari Natun Gaon Piped Water Supply Scheme under the Itakhuli Development Block built at a cost of Rs 37.25 lakh which will cover a population of more than 700 through 2.60 km pipeline with a reservoir of 60,000 litres capacity. Both the schemes have 16 street hydrants each.

Speaking in the meeting held on the occasion at Lohari Kachari Gaon and presided over by the Chief Engineer, PHE, Dilip Das, the minister stated that the present State Government is going to provide potable water in every area of the State and with that aim it is constructing water supply plants in every possible locality, especially in the village areas where lack of drinking water is a problem. He also suggested that the people should approach the local legislators for any new scheme.

Roy maintained that the local committees formed to maintain the schemes must be active and sincere to make the schemes self-sustainable. Both the inauguration functions were attended by MLAs of Chabua and Tinsukia, Raju Sahoo and RP Singh respectively, Deputy Secretary, Department of PHE, Saumya Kumar Baruah and other dignitaries.

It may be mentioned that the plot of land for the Lohari Kachari Gaon Water Supply Scheme was donated by the family of late Uddhab Chandra Chaudhury of the same village.
