Rotary International aid for cancer hospice

GUWAHATI, April 8 - The Rotary Club of Gauhati West of Rotary International District 3240 under the Global Grant Project of Rotary in partnership with the Rotary Club of Hsinchuchuchian of RI Dist 3500 of Taiwan has arranged for a global grant of US $30,000 for providing medical equipment, hospital furniture, etc., necessary for efficient functioning of the hospice constructed by Deepsikha Foundation at Mirza on the city outskirts.

The fund was raised through Rotary�s Global Grant Project and District Development Fund of RID 3240 comprising the northeastern states and North Bengal and RID 3500, Taiwan, a press release said.

�The Hospice Centre of Deepsikha at Mirza is a self- sustaining project, which shall provide love, care and dignity to the terminally ill cancer patients by inculcating the highest standards of palliative care,� the release stated.

The construction of the project was completed recently through financial support received from the Government of Assam, State Bank of India, Oil India Limited and individuals. It was inaugurated recently on a plot of land donated by the family of Babulal Jain of Mirza in the memory of his mother Tiji Devi Jain.

The hospice will be dedicated by Rotarian Chandu Agarwal, district governor, RI Dist 3240, to the terminally ill cancer patients of the region for providing palliative care by Deepsikha Cancer Care Foundation on April 10.
