GUWAHATI, April 12 - In an effort to pay tribute to senior citizens of the society, Assam Down Town University (ADTU), in collaboration with the Down Town Charity Trust, organised a pre-Rongali Bihu fiesta for elderly women at Seneh, a philanthropic trust.
A total of 21 elderly women are currently staying at Seneh, which works for the benefit of the underprivileged section of the society, especially women of the Northeast, said a press release issued here today.
The function, attended by several people as well as students and faculty members of ADTU, began with a Bihu Husori performance by the Rupjyoti Bihu Husori Group, which was followed by a mime and clown act by MC Hiru.
ADTU students presented a mono act and some other performances. There were games like breaking the pot blindfolded, musical chairs, etc., and the elderly women were presented with a chador and a gamosa. It was followed by a traditional meal comprising laru, sira doi, pitha and sweets.
The students presented some handmade items to the old age home as a token of their love, while the elderly women of Seneh shared their fond memories of Rongali Bihu celebrations.
At Nilachal Jatiya Vidyalaya: Rongali Bihu was celebrated at Nilachal Jatiya Vidyalaya today, where the headmistress of Bharalumukh Primary School Joshna Das released a handwritten calendar Olag.
Three dhol badaks Pranjit Cheleng, Manoj Baruah and Ranjit Baruah started the celebration with Rongsora in which all the teachers and students participated enthusiastically.
At Shishu Sarothi: Shishu Sarothi celebrated pre-Bihu function today as part of a CSR initiative of Topcem Cement.
Like every year, the children, their parents, teachers and staff celebrated the Assamese New Year with enthusiasm and vigour. The children had a joyous time singing songs and dancing to the beats of the dhol, taal and pepa. The teachers and staff put up a great Bihu performance for all the children.
