Rongali Bihu celebrated in Mayong circle

JAGIROAD, April 19 � Jagiroad Anchalik Students� Union on April 13 celebrated Rongali Bihu centrally at the premises of the Barowari Durga Puja here with various programmes. Jitumoni Pathak, president of the local unit hoisted the flag while Uttam Ch Deka, president, Jagiroad Anchalik Unnati Sabha hoisted Bihu flag. Sapoonjyoti Borkakati, general secretary of the Jagiroad AASU offered swahid tarpan.

The president and general secretary, Morigaon District Students� Union, Moon Thakuria and Ghanendra Kr Nath lit the earthen lamps before the portrait of Dr Bhupen Hazarika. A felicitation function was also organised in which a total of 50 senior citizens including retired teachers were felicitated by the AASU unit on the occasion of the Rongali Bihu on Goru Bihu-day. Abanti Deka, retired principal, Jagiroad HS School inaugurated a mukali-bihu in the presence of a large gathering.

Meanwhile the people of villages under Mayong circle celebrated Rongali Bihu with pomp and gaiety. On Goru Bihu day, cattles were given vitualistic bath in the rivers like Kalong, Kapilee and Killing. �Hussori� were held specially in the villages under Mayong circle.
