Rongali Bihu celebrated in Gurgaon

GUWAHATI, April 18 � Over a thousand persons from the National Capital Region of Delhi participated in the most cherished festival of Assam �Rongali Bihu�, which was organised at the DLF Phase-I Community Centre, Gurgaon by the Assam Association, Gurgaon, on Saturday.

The curtains to the cultural evening was raised with a musical choir chorded by the ladies of AAG, namely Reena Sharma, Dr Geeta Baruah Nath, Ashalata Bhuyan, Rajashree Kashyap, Momee Gogoi, Sangeeta Barooah, Mimun Das, Purnima Sharma, Mayuri Sharma, Nandini Sharma with music arranged and directed by Debojit Das.

The ceremonial lamp was lit by honourable Justice of Supreme Court of India.

The souvenir of AAG Samannay was released by the guests of the evening.

The first part of the competition was participated by five Bihu dancer � Tonmoyee Rani Neog of JNU, Bhaswati Goswami of Delhi, Sanghamitra Patowari, Bedahuti Saharia, and Pallavi Dutta of North Campus. The panel of judges comprised Siba Ram Deuri, Dev Prasanna Das of �Bhaiya Mama� fame and reputed Sattriya dancer Sanjukta Barooah.

Some melodious songs were presented by Debojit Das and Nandini Sharma.

This was followed by second part of the competition where four Bihu dancers � Akankshya Bhuyan and Sanghamitra Borgohain of Gurgaon, Naomi Prachi Hazarika of Dwarka and Sikha Mahanta of Delhi.

The first prize was won by Sikha Mahanta, while the second prize was clinched by Bedahuti Saharia. The third prize was bagged by Pallavi Dutta. A consolation prize of Rs 1,000 went to local damsel Akankshya Bhuyan.

Later, the �Bihutoli� reverberated to the sound of �dhol and taal� by �Dholor Ojha� Jiron Khanikar of Lakhimpur. The �dhol badan� was followed by a eloquent Bihu dance performance by local star Bidisha Sharma.
