BARPETA, Oct 3 � The revision of electoral rolls got under way in Barpeta subdivision with the publication of the draft rolls on October 1 last. This was informed by the Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta Siddhartha Singh in a press conference held at the conference hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner here.
Addressing the press meet Singh said that as per directives of the Chief Election Commission of India vide its letter ELE 233/2011/34 Dated 21/09/2011 summary revision of electoral rolls has been undertaken in all the six Assembly constituencies of Barpeta sadar subdivision from October 1 this year taking the base as the January 1, 2012.
According to the schedule of the revision draft of the rolls have been published on October 1 and claims and objections will be accepted up to November 1 this year. The district administration has arranged for special campaign to inform people about the revision and to make them aware about the necessary addition and deletion in the electoral roll. On October 8 and 11 a special meet will be organised all over the subdivision where relevant part of the roll will be read out. Special campaign with booth level agents of political parties for receiving claims and objections will be organised on October 9 16 and 23 next.
The last date for disposal of claims and objections has been fixed on December 1 next. Supplementary lists will be published from December 1 to December 31 next after necessary update of the database and merging of the photographs. The roll will be finally published on January 5, 2012 next.
The deputy commissioner also informed that designated officer has been appointed in every polling station who will issue different for claims and objections. Besides booth level officer has also been appointed to help designated officers during summary revision. He requested the people to cooperate in the process for a smooth and successful revision.
There are 812678 electors as published in the draft roll of Barpeta subdivision of which 431633 are male and 381045 female. 40 No Sorbhog LAC tops the list with 159223 electors comprising 84707 male and 74516 female. 43 Barpeta LAC comprises with 153969 electors with 80689 and 73280 male and female respectively. 44 Jania LAC has 136721 electors with 73797 male and 62924 female. 45 Baghbor LAC 46 Saruksetri LAC and 47 Sarukshetri LAC has 108050,149360 and 105355 electors respectively according to draft roll published on that day.
