Rockybul visits controversial Bardowa areas

NAGAON, March 18 � Minister Rockybul Hussain, MLA Gautam Bora along with Nagaon DC Dr P Ashokbabu and SP Sunil Kumar and other officials visited Bardowa areas this morning and discussed the problems of encroachment of Satra land where Satradhikar Devananda Mahanta, secretary of the management committee Dr Pradip Kumar Debamahanta, secretary of the Muktab and other local people were present.

The Nagaon DC informed this while addressing the mediapersons at the circuit house this afternoon where SP Sunil Kumar was also presents.

It may be mentioned here that 130 bighas of land marked as grazing reserve was allotted to Bardowa Satra in the year 1979. The Satra allowed some local people to cultivate these lands.

Later, when the Satra management committee found that it was not economically viable, it returned these lands to the department of Social Forestry in 1989. Some years back, local Muslim people established a Muktab (religious primary school) in this Social Forestry land. Few days back, Muslim people decided to establish a prayer hall in this area which was opposed by AsamSatra Mahasabha and others.

On March 17, ADC ANIH Bora and other officials visited the area to inquire into the matter. Leaders of both the communities expected a peaceful solutions to the problem, informed the DC and the SP in the press meet.
