Roadside parking at night irks residents

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, June 8 Despite several drives launched by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation to prevent roadside parking in the night, the narrow lanes and by-lanes of the city remain blocked with vehicles parked there regularly, specially infront of the garages and apartments with inadequate parking space.

The vehicles parked by the roadside, create problems for other vehicles to pass, which may lead to accidents. Similarly, the school buses and city buses parked on the roads or at the entry points of lane and by-lanes cause inconvenience for thepeople of the locality.

In the name of repairing, the garage owners park vehicles on the roads for very longer durations. Recently, the Corporation launched a drive against parking outside the garages, but due to the lack of strict enforcement, the drive was not successful, a GMC official mentioned.

Similarly, due to lack of adequate parking space in the apartment, the residents park their cars on the road, which has become a common sightnowadays, he added.

Recently the people of Tarun Nagar also expressed their resentment over parking of vehicles in front of the Tarun Nagar entry point by Rajiv Bhawan members, which causes inconvenience for others, and often leads to minor accidents.

With the increasing number of vehicles in the city, parking in the night has become a big problem. In our area, such parking often leads to tussle among the residents. The authorities should take strict measures so that the apartments mushrooming in the city have the provision for adequate parking place, a senior citizen of the Silpukhuri area mentioned.
