Road shows outside State promote Assam Tourism

GUWAHATI, Aug 27 - In order to promote Assam Tourism in the high potential domestic markets of the country, the State�s Department of Tourism in association with the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, organised road shows in Ahmedabad, Pune and Mumbai recently.

The State Tourism department and more than 30 major tour operators and tourism stakeholders from Assam took part in the road shows that promoted tourist destinations, special tourist circles and tourism infrastructure, annual festivals and colourful culture of Assam.

The dignitaries present at the Assam Tourism Road Show in Mumbai included State Minister of Tourism Chandan Brahma, ATDC Chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah, ATDC Vice Chairman Navadeep Kalita, Principal Secretary Tourism Rajesh Prasad, ATDC Managing Director Bhaskar Phukan, Director Tourism Deba Kr Mishra and others.

Apart from highlighting the tourism potential of the State, thrust was given on promoting Assam as a tourist-friendly destination with new and improved tourism infrastructure. The main attraction of the events included presentation of Sattriya dance and folk dances of Assam, promotion of the rich composite culture of the State, tea, wildlife and other attractions. The tour operators from Assam also attended the business-to-business meetings with the tour operators of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

The road shows were held on August 18 in Ahmedabad, August 19 in Pune and on August 21 in Mumbai. It may be mentioned that during 2018-19 Assam received 60,27,002 domestic tourists against 59,34,791 tourists in the previous year.
