Road rally against child labour organised

GUWAHATI, June 12 � On the occasion of World Day Against Child Labour, a road rally for mass awareness was organised by the Office of the Assistant Labour Commissioner Guwahati, in collaboration with Child Line Guwahati, World Vision India and National Child Labour Project Society Kamrup Metropolitan District.

Ashutosh Agnihotri, Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (M) while flagging off the road rally today from the Nehru Stadium, called upon the gathering to work towards bringing all children below the age of 14 years to the educational mainstream.

He also stressed the need for public support towards education in a concerted manner to get rid of the menace of child labour from Guwahati city within 2016.

Nibedita Hazarika, secretary of the Indian Council for Child Welfare, Assam, also spoke on the occasion and emphasised the need for coordinated efforts from all stakeholders and citizens to fight against child exploitation.

A small skit was also presented by the New Life Line Santha Social Club.

A pledge against engagement of child labour was administered to all the participants by Dhiren Goswami, Deputy Labour Commissioner, Assam.

The inaugural programme was also attended by Runumi Gogoi, Chairman, ASCPCR, Fakaruddin Ahmed, ADC and Project Director, NCLP, Kamrup(M), DK Das Additional Labour Commissioner, Assam and Bandana Bhuyan, Regional Director, NIPCCD, among others.
