RN Borooah, Protiva Borooah awards announced

GUWAHATI, Nov 9 � Samiran Duarah, Amguri correspondent of the Dainik Asam and Kishore Talukdar of the erstwhile Seven Sisters Post have been awarded the RN Borooah and Protiva Borooah Memorial Awards respectively for journalism for the year 2012.

The awards, instituted in the memory of RN Borooah, former editor of The Assam Tribune and his wife Protiva Borooah, carry a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a citation each. While Samiran Duarah won the RN Borooah Award for reporting on environment, tourism and conservation of nature and wildlife, Kishore Talukdar won the Protiva Borooah Award for reporting on the uplift of the poor and needy.

The awards will be presented to the winners at a function to be held at the Vivekananda Kendra Auditorium at Uzanbazar on November 12 at 4 pm. Former Governor of Meghalaya RS Mooshahary will be the chief guest, while DN Bezboruah, veteran journalist, will preside over the function.
