Riyan included in Indian U-19 squad for England tour

GUWAHATI, June 17 - Despite being overlooked by the selectors earlier, Assam�s Riyan Parag Das finally found his place in the India U-19 squad for next month�s two four-day matches against England.

Having played an important part in Assam�s journey to the quaterfinals of the Cooch Behar Trophy, Riyan was one of the highest run scorers in the tournament last season.

Riyan scored a total of 642 runs in 14 innings including two hundreds and two fifties with his unbeaten knock of 202 being the highest against Rajasthan.

Promising Haryana batsman Himanshu Rana will lead the India squad for next month�s two four-day matches against England while Prithvi Shaw of Mumbai will skipper the side in the subsequent five one-day matches during the tour. The Indian colts will start their tour with a two-day warm-up game on July 19-20 before playing the first four-day game from July 23-26 at Chesterfield. The second four-day match will be held from July 31-August 3 in Worcester.

The Assam Cricket Association has congratulated Riyan, and his parents, former Ranji player Parag Das and international swimmer Mithu Baruah, for his selection in the Indian U-19 squad. President, general secretary and members of the Veteran Cricket Association of Assam also congratulate Riyan. Former BCCI member Bikash Baruah, hailing Riyan for his inclusion in the Indian U-19 team said, another Assam player, left arm spinner Rahul Singh, who claimed highest wickets (53) in the last season�s Cooch Behar Trophy Tournament, also should have been included in the squad.

Team for four-day matches: Himanshu Rana (Captain), Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Manjot Kalra, Riyan Parag Das, S. Radhakrishnan, Harvik Desai, Het Patel, Harsh Tyagi, Ashok Sandhu, Rahul Chahar, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi, Darshan Nalkande, Vivekanand Tiwari.

Team for one-day matches: Prithvi Shaw (Captain), Shubman Gill, Himanshu Rana, S Radhakrishnan, Salman Khan, Abhishek Sharma, Harvik Desai, Het Patel, Anukul Roy, Shiva Singh, Rahul Chahar, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi, Yash Thakur, Ishan Porel.
