River linking only solution to protracted flood problem in State

By Correspondent

BARPETA, April 11 - The linking of rivers is the only solution to the protracted flood problem in Assam and the BJP-led Central government is seriously working on this issue, said Dr Sudha Jadav, national secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party at a press conference at the party district committee office this morning.

The erstwhile NDA government, led by Prime Minister Atal Behari Bajpayee, had ideated the river linking project, but the subsequent UPA government shelved it, she said and alleged that even a suggestion of the honourable President APJ Abdul Kalam to this effect was not attended to by the Dr Manmohan Singh government.

Referring to the overwhelming victory of the party in the recently held UP elections, Jadav said the voters in UP rejected politics based on religion, caste, dynasty and appeasement and voted in favour of development of all. She asserted that her party believes in development of all and appeasement of none.

Lauding the able and dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP national secretary said the government is committed not only to Vikash and Digitisation, but also to finding solutions to all issues. She also briefed on the development and welfare programmes of the Central government.

It may be mentioned here that as per the directive of party president Amit Shah to its national executive members and Members of Parliament to visit the places facing problems for on-the-spot assessment, Dr Jadav has arrived here on Monday. She had discussions at 4 pm on that day with the district executive members and certain representatives of Barpeta, Nalbari, Bingaigaon and Bajali.
