IMPHAL, Oct 23 - The Imphal River which passes through the Manipur capital, has been flowing close to the �warning level� due to incessant rain in the last few days in the State, official sources said.
Though the other major rivers are flowing below the danger mark, the Imphal river has been flowing very close to the warning level after continuous rainfall in the Kangpokpi area, the origin of the river, in the last two days, the sources added.
Kangpokpi received 28.77 mm rainfall on Thursday and 20.32 mm on Friday, according to Environment Department reports.
As per a Manipur Water Resources Department report this evening, the water level of Imphal River is above the �warning level� at Minuthong area even though it is flowing below the �warning level� at Lilong. At the same time, the water level of three other major rivers have also risen in the past 24 hours.
As a precautionary measure to reduce the downstream water level of the major rivers, all gates of the Imphal barrage have been opened fully, while three out of five Ithai barrage gates are also being opened.
In view of the increase of the water level of most rivers, the Director of the Relief and Disaster Management, Manipur, has written to the district authorities to take precautionary measures in coordination with the Water Resources Department, Manipur.
A toll-free telephone number, 1070, has also been installed as a standard disaster helpline in the State Emergency Operation Centre. It has provided another telephone number, 0385-2443441, for further communication.
