DIMAPUR, Dec 13 � Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio lauded the commitment of Catholic church to God which has led it to serve people even in the remotest villages of the State.
Addressing a congregation of believers after inaugurating the Parish Church of St Joseph Parish, Chumukedima today, Rio said the people from all strata of society have benefited from the services rendered by the Catholic church. He also called upon the congregation to pray for peace in Nagaland.
Rev Dominic Lumon, Archbishop of Imphal, Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, a number of priests and believers were in attendance at the inaugural programme of the church.
Recounting the unique journey of how St Joseph Parish Church came into existence, the CM observed that the story of the foundation stone and the blessing of the church site have all been prayerfully done. He went on to say that the completion of magnificent St Joseph church only shows the systematic planning, hard work and dedication of church personnel and believers alike.
The blessing of the New Church, Lectern and the Altar were officiated by Rev Dr James Thoppil while Rev Dominic Lumon was the main celebrant for the Holy Eucharist. In his homily, Archbishop Dominic Lumon underlined that church is a house dedicated to God for the glory of God and for the sanctification and salvation of human beings.
