Rijiju inaugurates Tezpur frontier of SSB

TEZPUR, Nov 16 - �Security upgradation and requirement in the North-east region is very significant as the region lies adjacent to the international border,� said Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Government of India while inaugurating the Frontier headquarters of SSB here at the Frontier headquarter premises. He said that the people of Assam will be benefited from this Frontier headquarter.

He appealed to the people to eschew ethnic violence, which suppresses the potential of the area. �We are working for the people of the area, but people should avoid getting involved in ethnic violence.� He stressed that the local law-and-order machinery and the administration should be robust to avoid ethnic clashes.

He mentioned the importance and significance of Tezpur while constituting the SSB as the first decision of the formation of the unit was taken up in November 1962 at the circuit house Tezpur. He lauded the role of the SSB in helping people in frontier areas, adding that the SSB is socially attached to the people of north-eastern region, mainly Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

On inter-State border disputes, he said that the border is a demarcation for administrative purposes and the people of India must unite by avoiding these disputes. He appealed to the Lakhimpur, Tezpur and Mangaldai MPs to take senior citizens to the Arunachal border on a goodwill mission to bring back peace and tranquillity in the areas.

The Director General of SSB, BD Sarma, in his inaugural speech mentioned about the role of Tezpur in the formation of SSB. � With the opening of one frontier headquarter at Tezpur, the total strength of SSB frontiers will be seven.� AK Negi, IG, SSB, gave the vote of thanks. The inaugural ceremony was attended by the GOC, Gajraj Corps, Sarat Chand, Tezpur MP Ram Prasad Sharma, and Tezpur MLA Rajen Borthakur.
