Rights body visits riot-hit areas in BTAD

TEZPUR, Jan 21 � A delegation comprising members from the Association for Protection of Civil Rights guided by the State Coordinator of APCR, Md Asif Hussain, besides Mahiuddin Barabhuyan and Director of the Human Rights Action Council of Assam, Parashmani Sinha, accompanied by co-workers Bhupen Borah, Raju Sahu and Amit Das visited the relief camps of Mazbat and Bodo-dominated areas, including Adarsha Gaon and Mazbat in BTAD.

During their visit, the delegation felt that setting up of a police outpost was an urgent necessity in the aforementioned areas for infusing a sense of security among the local villagers.

Pointing out the numerous problems faced by the inmates, the delegation said that adequate food; medicine, woollens and baby food along with blankets to tide over the winter is an immediate requirement.

�However, we feel that the most important thing is to send back the victims to their own homes and facilitate them with adequate household commodities.� Adding, they stated that confidence-building measures by formation of peace committees was an urgent need of the times so as to foster a peaceful environment between the two communities.

On the other hand, in order to check militant activities in the border areas, security camps have to be set up with urgency along the Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh border, they observed.

The delegation mentioned that under the banner of APCR and HRACA, a forum titled �Aapun Manuh� was recently formed for love, care and universal brotherhood. The relief material gathered by the forum were distributed among the inmates at Batachipur and Dhekiajuli areas.

The delegation also met Kokrajhar MP Hira Sarania and called upon the leaders of AASAA and AKRASU and discussed about the ongoing problems and on how best to pool resources in order to mitigate the affected villagers� woes.
